THE PARTS OF ORIGINAL MEDICARE EXPLAINED

MEDICARE PART A
(HOSPITAL COVERAGE)

PART A: most people are automatically enrolled in Medicare Part A when you turn 65. It is important to verify your enrollment on SSA.gov.

COVERAGE: Part A covers all associated costs but $1,600 of each hospital stay.

MEDICARE PART B
(DOCTOR COVERAGE)

PART B: you must enroll in Part B within three months before or after your 65th birthday month.

COVERAGE: Part B covers 80% of all in-network primary care and specialist doctors visits after deductible.

MEDICARE PART D
(DRUG COVERAGE)

PART D: Helps cover the cost of prescription drugs (including many recommended shots or vaccines).

You join a Medicare drug plan in addition to Original Medicare or you get it by joining a Medicare Advantage Plan with drug coverage.

Plans that offer Medicare drug coverage are run by private insurance companies that follow rules set by Medicare.

COVERAGE: Part D plans use a formulary to determine prescription drug coverage. Choose a plan that fits your individual needs.

MEDICARE PART C (ADVANTAGE PLANS)

PART C: is Medicare Advantage plans. Medicare Advantage plans replace Original Medicare and usually work like an HMO.

*NOTE: You are still required to be enrolled in a Medicare Part A and Part B Plan in addition to your chosen Advantage Plan despite the fact your Advantage Plan will assume coverage of both doctor and hospital visits.
